Activities: Due to IMC weather on May 12, the Boone County Airport Association has rescheduled their Young Eagles event for Saturday morning, June 19. All kids who were registered on May 12 will get their rides, weather permitting. Any pilots or ground crew volunteers are asked to contact Wayne Deckard at 317-370-7930 or Michael Mossman at 765-336-4454.
Jay Schaumburg got his instrument rating during the second week of June. During the check ride, the vacuum pump in his Mooney went south, creating a very real in-flight problem. After sorting out why the instruments didn't agree, Jay and his examiner determined that the vacuum gauge was telling the real story, covered up a couple of instruments and did their "real" partial panel maneuvers.
Several chapter 1311 members, along with the club at Boone County Airport, hosted an "open" Young Eagles event on Saturday, June 12, from 9 to 11. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't cooperating. With at least a dozen kids on the ground waiting for their ride, and an equal number of parents looking for a blue hole in the skies, pilot volunteers Chad Williams and Chuck Long took off in William's 172 to check the ceiling. They quickly determined that the kids wouldn't get an acceptable ride, so the event was postponed to Saturday, June 19; all kids who were registered on the 12th will be given priority on the 19th.
Chapter 1311 will try to list the aviation-related events in Indiana and surrounding states, plus the major events across the country. Do you know of an event that isn't listed? Please inform the newsletter editor to get it included.
The next meeting will be on Wednesday, July 7, 6:30 p.m., at Mount Comfort Airport Airport. Program: Harpoon tour by Glen Matejcek.
Take U.S. 36 (Rockville Road) west past Avon.
Turn left (south) on CR 300 E (84 Lumber is on the SW) corner of the intersection.
At about 1/2 mile turn right (west) into the airport.
The operations building is straight back from the road.
July 7 Program: Harpoon tour by Glen Matejckek
