Quote of the Month
The two worst things that can happen to an aviator:
2. One day you will walk out to your aircraft, not knowing it will be your last flight.

January's program
Vern Sullenger led the chapter on a roundtable discussion about potential meeting programs and the general direction of the chapter for the coming year.

Hats: Vern Sullenger reported that the chapter hats for sale are nice but too hot for summer. We should get some hats with a lighter color, and what about new chapter logo? We might consider chapter shirts, too. Gary Reynolds recommended the chapter have a logo contest for ideas. Doug Moncreiff added that if anyone wants to do it we would likely accept their ideas.

Programs: Troy Grover reported that there is a guy in Illinois who is building a 50% scale B-17. It will be a tandem 2-seater. We might be able to get him to come to a meeting. Vern Sullenger commented that when we have nice weather it would be nice to look at projects. Another member added that the HCAA does eating when the weather is good. Mark Rinehart mentioned that he would like to see some workshops on electrical systems and engine installation. Vern Sullenger stated that anyone with a skill who is willing to come on Wednesday night is what we need for our programs

Christmas Party: Vern Sullenger stated that we were disappointed in the Christmas Party turnout. Do we want to combine with them again this year? Gary Reynolds stated he liked the parties at peoples' homes more. Mike Laurenzano added that the intimacy was lost at the meeting. Michael Mossman said that we could make the party more of a pitch-in; there is no reason the host has to do all of the work.

Chapter Project: Mike Laurenzano said that the EAA is changing its rules and will be allowing chapters to own an airplane. John Saalwaechter reported that at his old chapter in Michigan, they had a sub-club that owned a donated airplane that was available to rent cheap. John Broyles added that if we are looking for a project, there are plenty of certified airplanes that need rebuilding. Gary Reynolds commented that there are lots of projects that failed and could be used for a Saturday morning riveting practice session.

Chapter Philanthropy: Dale Gustafson reported that The Vintage Division at Oshkosh needs chairs for their demo workshop area in the new hangar. The chapter has 50 chairs in storage; we might be able to donate some but we will need to paint them first. Michael Mossman added that it would be nice to have our new chapter logo on the back of the chairs before they head to Oshkosh. Dale Gustafson motioned to offer some chairs to the EAA, with Gus delivering them. Michael Mossman seconded the motion and amended it to include the chapter contributing to the gas to get the chairs delivered. Mark Rinehart seconded the amended motion. All present voted in favor of the motion.
