Good flying weather has lasted longer than I thought it would but when it changed it wasn't gradual at all. The winds were terrible, low temperatures and bad wind chills made for a good reason to stay in and keep warm. I can say that I'm happy to be retired because I've been caught out on work schedules when these bad storms have hit and done their damage.
Since this is my final column, I had planned to make it a long one, but many of the thoughts I had in mind to write about have just vanished! I will say that I have enjoyed the last five years as the Chapter President. I will say that I'm concerned about General Aviation during the next few years. I think "Sport Pilot" flying will do a good job of keeping airplanes in the air. It is good that there is an organization named "EAA" and am proud to be a long time member of it. Give it all the support you can! Since this is my "Last Hurrah" I'll end with a "Thank You All" and my standard ending Fly and Drive Safe.
Gus
P.S. Please give the new Chapter Officers your full support. That makes for an interesting Chapter!
Dinner Menu: Two or three salads, vegetable medley, au gratin potatoes, roast chicken, roast pork, bread, tea, coffee, and Neapolitan ice cream for dessert, along with a cash bar.

Christmas Letter From Our Founder
From our humble beginnings in January 1954, EAA has been a family organization, with a love for aviation, building friendships and respect for each other, as it has always been in our Chapters. I hope this spirit and volunteerism is respected and continued for many years to come.
2010 will soon be upon us here at EAA headquarters and our Board of Directors continue their efforts to search for a new President to lead your organization. It would be my wish that the founding principles of the organization be continued and the Chapters' (and their members') input continue to be heard by the EAA Board of Directors.
Please give my very best and Christmas greeting to your find Chapter. It is a privilege for me to personally sign this holiday greeting to you and your Chapter.
Season's greetings,

If you receive only one section of the newsletter, or if the sections you receive are missing the embedded photo attachments please contact the newsletter editor at michaelandkatie1@comcast.net. Welcome New Members
We have had many guests over the past few months and many people have expressed an interest in our organization. Look around and see if you have any friends, family members or acquaintance that are interested in aviation. Take the time to invite them as a guest to the next meeting. If you see somebody new, introduce yourself, welcome him or her, and invite them to sign up.
Once again it's time for Chapter 1311 members to ante up with dues. The chapter's board of directors will again set the 2010 dues at $15 to help meet the chapter's on-going expenses. Since we don't have any chapter fund raising events, we need to pay our EAA assessments, insurance, web site maintenance, and other internal expenses with what we raise from dues.
December 8, 2009
As another year draws to a close, we celebrate another Christmas and Thanksgiving is just a memory. For me, as the founder of your fine organization, I am very thankful for all of the many friends I've been privileged to have met throughout the past 57 years of "EAA life." The EAA Officers and Directors of the pas as well as the many EAA Chapter Presidents and their officers and members who have given their time and enthusiasm to making EAA and aviation so much better, for this Audrey and I are grateful.

Chapter 1311 is always looking for correspondents and contributors to our monthly newsletter. Whenever you have a story or photo that would be of interest to our readers, we would like to publish it.
Start thinking of the places where you locally buy for AN hardware, sheet metal, paint, tools and other items. We'll need an address, phone number and web site, if they have one. Be sure to let us know if you would recommend them to others or not. The idea here is that members should be able to look to suppliers that you trust and would continue to do business with. Please forward your ideas and recommendations to Michael Mossman at michaelandkatie1@comcast.net
New Aircraft: John Saalwaechter bought another V-tail Beechcraft Bonanza and brought it to the field in November. Partners Jay Schaumberg and Dick Gurley bought a Mooney M20-C on December 10 and brought it to the field.
EAA Young Eagles Update: By newsletter publication date more than 1,512,850 Young Eagles have taken their first airplane ride.
This Army Blackhawk helicopter landed at Boone County Airport on Saturday, December 5, bringing a two-star general and entourage for a program at the Lebanon Armory. While the general was in town, the crew stayed behind to tend to the helicopter. Before the general returned, the crew helped the airport volunteers clean the debris off of the runway. See the video at http://www.booneairport.org. Click on the link "Projects" then scroll down to the link for the Blackhawk helicopter. Note: this is a large video file; if it runs erratically, pause it and wait for the date to catch up.
