Aviation Humor
Continuing her rage to the embarrassed crew, she was now shouting hysterically: "God! Now you've screwed everything up! It"ll take forever to sort this out! You stay right there and don't move till I tell you to! You can expect progressive taxi instructions in about half an hour, and I want you to go exactly where I tell you, when I tell you, and how I tell you! You got that, US Air 2771?"
"Yes, ma'am," the humbled crew responded.
Naturally, the ground control communications frequency fell terribly silent after the verbal bashing of US Air 2771. Nobody wanted to chance engaging the irate ground controller in her current state of mind. Tension in every cockpit out around Gatwick was definitely running high.
Just then an unknown pilot broke the silence and keyed his microphone, asking: "Wasn't I married to you once?"

Chapter 1311 will try to list the aviation-related events in Indiana and surrounding states, plus the major events across the country. Do you know of an event that isn't listed? Please inform the newsletter editor to get it included.
The next meeting will be on Wednesday, March 4, 2009, 6:30 p.m., in the Operations Building at Hendricks County Airport, Danville IL. Program: Presentation by Bill Whitsitt about his company Xwind's Crosswind Landing Simulator. Whitsitt's experience as a CFI is that it takes a Student/Pilot about 90 crosswind landings to become proficient. The simulator gives the Student/Pilot an opportunity to concentrate on that one minute or less that is critical for a good crosswind landing.
Take U.S. 36 (Rockville Road) west past Avon.
br>Turn left (south) on CR 300 E (84 Lumber is on the SW) corner of the intersection.
At about 1/2 mile turn right (west) into the airport.
The operations building is straight back from the road.

While taxiing at London's Airport, the crew of a US Air flight departing for Ft. Lauderdale made a wrong turn and came nose to nose with a United 727. An irate female ground controller lashed out at the US Air crew, screaming: "US Air 2771, where the hell are you going? I told you to turn right onto Charlie taxiway! You turned right on Delta! Stop right there. I know it's difficult for you to tell the difference between C and D, but get it right!"

February's program was billed as an annual "What's New at Grov-Air" visit. What's going on at Grov-Air is business as usual. Although the economy has taken its toll on the economy, hitting the recreation and hobby industries hard, Grov-Air appears to be weathering the storm. Troy Grover's shop was packed with Van's RV aircraft in various stages of completion. Troy has several people working for him full-time and part-time, and a waiting list to get in.
When Chapter 1311 visited last year, Troy had recently brought in an RV-6 that lost power and did an off-airport landing, flipping over in the process. It's now owned by the owner of Grand Rapids Technologies, a well-known manufacturer of experimental avionics. Troy and his crew have down extensive repairs and replacements to the airframe and are now building some plug-in wiring harnesses. It's too bad that they will eventually have to rivet a floor in the RV-6; the work that will soon be hidden is a work of art: very neat harnesses, nice multi-pin connectors and great workmanship.
Troy had his RV-10 tail section in the main room during the chapter's tour; he has continued to work on it as time allows, but the progress has been slow as he focuses on his client's aircraft and needs. Hopefully, we'll see more of it as time progresses.
One new project at Grov-Air is new chapter member Paul Berg's RV-8. Paul recently retired from the nursery business and has devoted his spare time to building an aircraft. Paul's tail surfaces are completed and were on display during the tour. His workmanship is very good, indicating that the rest of the aircraft will be a beautiful one. Paul might be deviating from the standard aircraft building sequence, looking toward building his fuselage kit before starting the wings.
Some of the past alumni have gone on to win awards for their aircraft. A few year's ago Troy's father won a prize at the Midwest Regional Fly-In for his RV-8 "Hot Stuff." Then last year, Chuck LeBarreare won a Bronze Lindy award at Oshkosh for his RV-8A.
