April 2007
From the Chapter President:
Gus Gustafson writes about Florida's April weather, the new Sport Cub and the price of fuel.

April's meeting: Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at Hendricks County Airport, chaired by Chapter Vice President Doug Moncreiff. In Attendance: 15 members and 4 guests. Treasurer's report: Vern Sullenger reports that the chapter has $1,812.26 in account plus $90 to deposit, minus $60 for the nametags. Secretary's report: Michael Mossman gave a brief summation of the March meeting. Vice President's report: Recent changes to the program schedule, mainly so that we can tour the control tower in May Young Eagles events coming up next month: Mount Comfort Airport on May 5, and 1311will be flying Young Eagles on Saturday, May 12. Project Reports: Troy Grover says that the RV-8A in his shop is ready to move to the airport. Steve Kopeschka says he got motivated for the club visit so he went to Georgia for a workshop on TIG welding. Paul Vogel says his Sonex is scattered all over. Kim Shumaker moved to a new house at Twelve Oaks near Martinsville. Michael Mossman is considering converting his Zenair to a tailwheel landing gear. EAA Work Parties: Dave Clark announces Oshkosh work parties. New Business: The December meeting will be a Christmas party, tentatively planned for Bravo Italian restaurant. Program: Troy Grover opened his Grov-Air builder's assistance center for a tour.

Welcome new Members: Martinsville resident Bill Myrtle joined the chapter at the April meeting.

Troy Grover Becomes a Flight Advisor: Troy Grover announced that he has been accepted as the chapter's first Flight Advisor.

Ford Tri-Motor Coming to Indiana: EAA's Ford Tri-Motor is to be at Elkhart IN June 7-10, then Columbus IN on June 11 through 13.

New Chapter Name Tags Available: EAA Chapter 1311 has lanyard-style name tags for the meetings.

Chapter 1311 Builders' Local Resource Directory: Listings for Earl's Indy, AED Motorsports, Chance Aviation and McKinney Corp. are highlighted.

Young Eagles Numbers Increase: Young Eagles numbers exceed 1,300,000.

From the Chapter President: Gus Gustafson writes about the May 12 Young Eagles rally and the Indy tower tour.

May's meeting: Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at Indianapolis International Airport, chaired by Chapter President Dale Gustafson. In Attendance: 16 members and five guests. Treasurer's report: None given. Secretary's report: Michael Mossman gave a brief summation of the April meeting. Vice President's report: None given. Project Reports: Troy Grover moved the RV-8A project to his hangar and installed the wings. President's Remarks: Gus said that at Fun & Sun there was an accident per day. New Business: Noblesville Chapter 67 Pancake Breakfast is Saturday, June 16. Post Air Chapter 900 Pancake Breakfast and Midwest Taildragger Rendezvous is Saturday, June 23. Program: Tour of the new control tower at Indianapolis International Airport.

June's meeting: Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at Hendricks County Airport, chaired by Chapter President Dale Gustafson. In Attendance: 17 members and 4 guests. Treasurer's report: $2,022.26 in the account plus $45 to deposit. Secretary's report: Report on May meeting and Control Tower tour given. Vice President's report: The July meeting will be on the second Wednesday of the month, due to Independence Day occurring on the first Wednesday. Project Reports: None given. President's Remarks: 65 Young Eagles flew on May 12. New Business: Tool Scholarship: Dave Clark reported on the Tool Scholarship. 50/50 Drawing: Doug Moncreiff won $32 and donated his winning to the tool scholarship. Program: Skip Budny opened up his shop to show this Mini 500 helicopter project.

Welcome New Members: Kyle Bain, Robert (Bob) Braaf and Scott Schermerhorn joined the chapter.

Visit Pegasus Farms: Mike Laurenzano invites chapter members to fly into Pegasus Farms and gives directions on locating the field.

July's meeting: Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at Hendricks County Airport, chaired by Chapter President Dale Gustafson. In Attendance: 20 members and 6 guests. Treasurer's report: $1,806.81 in the account, plus $49 to deposit. Secretary's report: Reading of the June minutes was waived. Vice President's report: Announcements of the next three meeting programs President's Remarks: We received written notice that the chapter newsletter did not make the cut in the annual judgings. Project Reports: None given. Young Eagles Report: Five Young Eagles flown on June 23. New Business: Vern Sullenger reports that we have four calendars left; price now negotiable. Buy/Sell/Trade: Mike Laurenzano is looking for a partner to build a Sonex. 50/50 Drawing: The chapter netted $24 from 50/50.

Gus Gustafson writes about AirVenture, a regional meeting on EAA leadership and the disappearing airports.

August's meeting: Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at Hendricks County Airport, chaired by Chapter President Dale Gustafson. In attendance: 18 members and 2 guests. Treasurer's report: $1,820.80 in the bank plus $73 for deposit. Secretary's report: Michael Mossman reported on updating the newsletter content and chapter member records. Vice President's report: Doug Moncreiff reported on up-coming fly-ins and the following months' meeting program schedule. President's Remarks: Gus will announce nomination committee in September, candidates in October, election during the November meeting. Fly-Out Planning: Mike Laurenzano announced plans for the fly-out at Pegasus Farms. Project Reports: None given. Young Eagles Report: None given. New Business: Gary Reynolds reported on the status of the tool project. The chapter voted to set the minimum bid for the tool box at $300. September's meeting: Wednesday, September 5, 2007, chaired by Chapter President Dale Gustafson. In attendance:13 members and one guest. Treasurer's report: $1,820.80 in the bank account plus $73 to deposit. Tool Scholarship: Gary Reynolds reported that the Chapter had spent $574.46 to complete it. Secretary's Report: None given. 50/50 drawing: Skip Bundy won $26 and donated it to tool fund. New Business: Elections nominating committee appointed. Tool Scholarship kit is completed. Mike Laurenzano discussed the Fly-out to Pegasus Farm. Gus noted that Greenwood Airport was having a Central Indiana EAA Chapter meeting for lunch at Noon on the 22nd of September. John Marshall is hosting a Chili Cookout at Shelbyville Airport on Saturday, October 13. Discussion of a possible "Garage Sale" of tools at the ATA hangar in October. Gus Gustafson writes about autumn weather, the cost of avgas and the tool scholarship.

October's meeting: Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at Hendricks County Airport, chaired by Chapter President Dale Gustafson. In Attendance: 18 members in attendance. Treasurer's report: $1,054 in the account plus $40 to deposit. Hats are $12 each. Secretary's report: Michael Mossman gave a reading of the minutes of the September meeting, which were approved. Vice President's report: Doug Moncreiff gave a report on the fly-out to Pegasus Farms. Mike Laurenzano brought enough food for about 30 people; approximately 21 came. HCAA loaded Elections Report: Glen Matejcek said that the board of directors would like to expand the numbers of Class II directors. The slate of candidates was announced. President's Remarks: Gus reports that Noblesville Chapter 67 is hosting their annual barbecue on Sunday, October 7 from noon to 3 p.m. Long-time barbecue volunteer Maurice Hobson won't there; he is headed to the hospital. New Business: Glen Matejcek reports that David Gray, our program at the May 2006 meeting, painted the cover of a book on the battle of Midway. The Harpoon is no longer coming to Hendricks County Airport. Buy/Sell/Trade: Gus Gustafson reports that a flat 4 O-290 engine in crate is available at Mount Comfort. 50/50 Drawing: Dale Gustafson won $16 from the 50/50 drawing. Program: Round table report on the Chapter fly-out to Pegasus Farms and of the fly-in at Lee Bottom Field.

Gus Gustafson writes about the chapter elections, the EAA fall Board of Directors meeting, aviation classified ads and building hangars.

November's meeting: Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at Hendricks County Airport, chaired by Chapter President Dale Gustafson. In Attendance: 21 members. Treasurer's report: 1,258.02 in the account, plus receipts from the meeting. Secretary's report: Michael Mossman read the minutes from the October meeting. Special Board Vote: The Board of Directors voted to increase the number of Class II directors from three to seven. Vice President's report: The Christmas Party has been moved from Bravo Restaurant to the L.A. Café in Whitestown, on Saturday, December 8, 5 p.m. Elections Report: Dennis Crawley and Gary Reynolds counted the ballots and the results were announced at the meeting. President's Remarks: Doug Moncreiff and Dennis Crawley will be working on programs for the coming year. Vern Sullenger is going to the Sport Aviation Expo in Sebring FL in January. New Business: Dennis Crawley has some new chapter hats for $12. Buy/Sell/Trade: None listed. 50/50 Drawing: John Broyles won $18. Program: Mike Laurenzano reported on his experiences in air-to-air refueling in the Air Force.

Chapter Elections: 60.4% vote response. The results for 2008: President: Dale Gustafson; President: Doug Moncreiff; Secretary: Michael Mossman; Treasurer: Vern Sullenger; Class II Directors: Dennis Crawley, Dave Helton, Chuck Long, Glen Matejcek, David Morton, Gary Reynolds and Paul Vogel. Referendum: The chapter voted 27 to 5 in favor of amending the bylaws Article VAA and Article IX to increase the term of the officers from one year to two years.
