Is your project finished and flying? We've love to report on it. Consider submitting a flight and performance report for the newsletter. Your experiences and insight will help other members who are building the same or similar model aircraft, and will positively influence others who may be contemplating an aircraft project.
If you aircraft has been flying for several years now, you might not be finished with the building process. What adjustments or modifications have you undertaken since the airplane first flew? Any significant repairs? Any memorable flights? Share them with your fellow chapter members!

Aviation on the Web
One unique feature of the RV Builder's Hotline is that it contains no advertising. Site visitors may send articles about their aircraft or experiences, too. To submit your work for publishing on the RV Builder's Hotline, send your story to rvhotline@expercraft.com.
Visit the hot line at http://rvhotline.expercraft.com/
The RV Builder's Website appears to be a subset of the Expercraft website, which is a web based aircraft building log site. Expercraft has on-going logs for more than 25 makes and models of aircraft. See the overall web site at http://rvhotline.expercraft.com/.

Each member will be limited to one guest, who must be pre-registered prior to the meeting. If you are bringing a guest, email your guest's full name and contact information to Doug Moncreiff at least 10 days prior to the meeting.
Directions from north and west: From US40/National Rd. turn south on Bridgeport, then yield right onto West Perimeter Road. Follow West Perimeter to Stafford Road and turn left, across the bridge to Midfield Terminal Road. Turn left on Midfield Terminal Road through the gate/flashing light/construction area. About a mile is the left turn-in for the tower. Follow that to the Tower gate and use the squawk box to call for entry.
Directions from east and south: I-456 to I-70W to the 6 Points Road North exit. Take 6 Points north to Stafford Road, then turn right. Continue east to Midfield Service Road and turn left, through the gate/flashing light/construction area. About a mile is the left turn-in for the tower. Follow that to the Tower gate and use the squawk box to call for entry. (This way is a little longer but less congested/confusing by avoiding the airport terminal area.)

April's Program
So it goes with Grov-Air. There's a lot of the same stuff in there, yet every year there is something new and different to look at. And maybe do a little dreaming, too.
Troy reports that this RV-8A is close to being ready for inspection. Once it's signed off, it's time to move it to Hendricks County Airport for final assembly then test fly it.
We hope to have a full report in the specifications and initial flight characteristics of this aircraft in a future newsletter.

Coinciding with Van's Aircraft's 5,000th customer completion, Glen Matejcek informs us of an RV builders information website, the RV Builder's Hotline. The hotline is a web-based information center with plenty of RV-specific tips, tricks, ideas, how-tos and don't-do-its. If you aren't building an RV, it's got lots of techniques that can be applied to your metal aircraft project.

After selling his recently-acquired Cessna 320, Wayne Deckard bought a 1959 Cessna 175 from an owner in the Shreveport LA area. The original owner had lived in Arizona and kept it in the desert until he died about a year ago. His estate sold it to the person that Deckard bought it from. It's been stripped of its paint several years ago, but because of the environment it doesn't have any corrosion.
Hangar Space: There are several hangar vacancies available. Anyone desiring to base an aircraft at the airport or use the maintenance hangar will be required to join the association. For more information contact Michael Mossman, association secretary, or see the website http://www.booneairport.org.
Chapter 1311 has tentatively set Saturday, May 12 as the date of its first Young Eagles event of the year. The event will be co-sponsored with Hendricks County Aviation, who will contribute some aircraft, pilots and food. HCA will be advertising the event in local media, and will be offering adult and family rides for sale after the conclusion of the Young Eagles portion. Volunteers will be needed for flying, aircraft, ground support, registration and food service.
If you have an opinion on any story that appears in the newsletter, or any other aviation-related issue, we want to read about it. We will make editorial space available for your responsible comment. Please contact the newsletter editor at 1-765-483-9533 then send it to the newsletter editor at michaelandkatie@insightbb.com. Or just write what you wish and send it as an email.
Chapter 1311 will try to list the aviation-related events in Indiana and surrounding states, plus the major events across the country. Do you know of an event that isn't listed? Please inform the newsletter editor to get it included.

"You've never been lost until you've been lost at Mach 3." Paul F. Crickmore (test pilot)
By Michael Mossman
Heading back to Grov-Air once a year reminds me of my youth many years ago, waiting in the fall for the arrival of the Christmas Wish Books from Sears, Montgomery Wards or Penneys. I could spend hours leafing through them and dreaming of all of the neat stuff that I should get. Of course, 99% of that never did happen, but it was still fun to look and wish, year after year.
Grov-Air continues to bring in new tools, fixtures, jigs and accessories for building RV aircraft. But the real attraction is the aircraft that are in construction or near completion. During the February 2006 visit, RV builder Chuck LeBarreare had an RV-8A that looked fairly complete. Like most projects, it was about 90% complete with only 90% to go. That remaining 90% has been completed, and of the April 2007 visit, the airplane looked nearly ready to fly. For most of us, it looked like all that was left to do was install the seats and wings and go flying (barring the inspection and paperwork, etc.!).
LeBarreare's airplane is a meticulously constructed airplane and very beautiful in its unpainted aluminum appearance. What sets this airplane apart from the crowd is its heavily "glass" panel. In the narrow instrument panel of the tandem seat RV-8A, LaBarreare and Grover manages to neatly pack in four decent-sized glass panel instruments. He's got a Garmin GPS/Nav/Com, two multi-function displays, and a digital engine monitor, all in color. Tucked in underneath the displays are a transponder, audio panel and an additional nav/com radio. Filling in the remaining real estate he's tucked in a few analog backup instruments. The result is a full IFR-capable panel with enough redundancy to make some serious cross country flying safe and comfortable.
During the June 2004 meeting, the chapter visited Grover's home in Avon to take a look at the RV-10 that he was starting in his garage. He's since moved it to his shop, where it occupies some office space. The empennage and tail cone section propped up on a stand reminded me of those visible V-8 engine kits that I used to see in the Christmas catalogs. Everything's superbly built, and with the tail cone open, it's easy to inspect the quality of workmanship inside and out.
The RV-10 project is moving along slowly due to the steady influx of RV building assistance projects, weekend starter classes and teaching at Vincennes University during the evenings. Still he tries to get some time in on the project to keep it moving forward.
